Why do I even need to do this? I don’t want to get pregnant right now.

When I went on my journey, I felt the same exact way. I wasn’t ready to have a baby, but I kept feeling like something was wrong. While I pushed off making changes, the nagging question of “Am I broken?” nagged at me every single time I went to the bathroom. Because with over a year with no period, it could come any day, right? So with every single one of the five million bathroom trips I took each day, I wrestled with the same question of Why do I even need to do this? I don’t want to get pregnant now, so why bother?

But here’s the thing, it’s not just a period. It’s not just the mental health aspect of feeling like a psycho for having the same conversation in your head over and over again. Let’s hit it from the science of it. Your hormones are out of balance which is causing your period to be MIA. In general, the hypothalamus (in your brain), is struggling to send the signal to the other part of your brain, the pituitary which is then sending signals for LH and FSH to the ovaries. Your issue isn’t that you're broken, in fact, your body is responding exactly how it's supposed to. For some reason, your body is taking measures into its own hands to protect you. Something has signaled to your whole HPO axis that you aren’t in a safe place to have a baby. That’s what our bodies are actually designed to do!

Chances are, your body doesn’t have enough estrogen cycling and the signaling in your body is off kilter. Estrogen is extremely important! It manages and regulates your glucose, cholesterol, bone bass, muscle mass, insulin sensitivity, blood circulation, blood flow and heart rate, collagen, brain function, calcium, breast and uterus health. If having your period doesn’t feel that important, look at all the other things I just mentioned that fall apart. If your estrogen is off, it knocks off other important systems in your body like your thyroid and your adrenals.

So do you even need to do this, yes. Yes you do. You deserve a full life and without the functions of your body, you’ll only be living half of it. Let’s do this.
