what exercises are best for fertility? –Jayce from KS

Hi Jayce!

Here’s the thing, fertility needs rest. Fertility needs to see that your body is safe. Exercise is often training and preparing–it challenges your body which means your body sees extreme exercise as not safe.

This is not to say that you MUST stop exercising. I didn’t when I was restoring my fertility. What did I do? I changed all jump rope/high intensity to a calmer, simpler weight routine. I changed my running to walking. I adjusted my yoga to be slower. I continued to move, I just changed the intensity. It took me a long time, but I also changed the mindset behind it. I went from wanting to be as skinny as possible, to wanting to maintain my body’s mobility needs and power.

As far as the best exercise for fertility? I really don’t think there is one. I think the best exercise is one that you consistently enjoy and feel good doing before, during, and after. The calorie conundrum is really the ticket. You must be eating enough to support the exercise! And if you’re already struggling with fertility, you need to eat MORE than you are. Ladies, listen up: you need to keep those calorie levels in check by eating to satiety. This doesn’t mean you need to count calories, but if you're burning more calories than you're consuming, well, let's just say your body might not be too keen on sharing its resources for baby-making purposes. Eat, my friends, eat! But before you grab that bag of chips and call it a day, remember that quality matters. Fuel your body with nutrient-rich foods that will support your fertility goals. And hey, if you happen to sneak in a chocolate bar or two, who's judging? Certainly not me!

Now, I know what you're thinking: "But what about those Instagram influencers who swear by their intense workout routines and strict diets?" Well, let me tell you, half of them are probably robots and the other half are just really good at photoshop. Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to unrealistic standards. Your fertility journey is unique to you, and it deserves to be treated with respect.

In conclusion, the best exercise for restoring fertility is whatever makes you feel calm, happy, and cortisol-free. Whether it's a leisurely stroll in the park, a gentle yoga session, or even a good old-fashioned dance party in your living room, find what works for you and embrace it with open arms (and maybe some jazz hands for good measure).

So, go forth, my fertility-seeking friends, and remember to laugh a little along the way. After all, they say laughter is the best medicine – and who knows, it might just be the secret ingredient to your baby-making recipe.
